UIW Jazz Ensemble Performs @ 43rd Montreux Jazz Festival!
The University of the Incarnate Word Jazz Ensemble gave two performances at the 43rd annual Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and has been extended an open invitation to perform at future festivals. The UIW ensemble was the first university jazz ensemble from San Antonio to perform at the prestigious festival and was the only university jazz ensemble from the United States to be invited to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2009.
On this site, we have thanked a long list of people who helped us raise the funds to make our trip possible and we inadvertently left out one very important person, Claudia Regolatti. She is the Programmer of Music in the Park for the Montreux Jazz Festival and she is the person who invited the UIW Jazz Ensemble to perform at the Festival. On behalf of all the ensemble members, THANKS CLAUDIA!

UIW Jazz Ensemble Performs @ 49thTexas Jazz Festival with
Richie Cole!

The UIW Jazz Ensemble had the distinct honor and pleasure of
performing at the 49th Annual Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi,
with Richie Cole leading the sax section and taking a number of
memorable improvised solos. Cole attended Berklee College of
Music on a Downbeat Magazine scholarship. He played lead alto for
the Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, and Doc Severinsen big bands
and has toured the world with his own quintet. He has also toured
and recorded with Freddy Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Art Pepper, Nancy
Wilson, to name just a few. For his full bio and discography, visit
www.richiecole.com. All the members of the UIW Jazz Ensemble
were thrilled to get the chance to perform with such a world class
jazz artist. He is also a very warm human being with a great sense of humor and was a total joy to work
with. Thanks Richie!
Please visit our Events page often for upcoming performance dates!
Both invitations to perform at Montreux and the North Sea Festivals were the result of a six-song video demo submitted to the festivals. Links to excerpts are below.
